I have to admit--I'm a scrap-lifter. Not that I never come up with my own original lay-outs, but for the most part I like an idea to get me going. I love looking and idea books--Creating Keepsakes, Scrapbooks ETC, and others. I very rarely-or never end up with my page looking like a replica of theirs, but it's just enough to get my own jump-started. Sometimes my completed page looks like it was taken from the picture in the magazine, other times it's impossible to tell how I used the picture to inspire my own page.
One of the best sources I've found for page ideas is Becky Higgins "Sketches". http://www.amazon.com/Creative-Sketches-Vol-Becky-Higgins/dp/1933516089
(Just a note here--originally this magazine was 14.95. I believe it is out of print now, along with her vol I. I was shocked to see how much they are selling for. If you EVER see one 2nd hand, preferably cheaper!) grab it NOW. You won't be sorry!)
I did find the first vol. too. Although I use and like the 2nd vol more, the first vol is definitely worth getting/owning too!

I've been working on one of my client's books this week. She sorts her pictures into envelopes--generally by theme. Sometimes there are a lot of photos, sometimes a few.
The first envelope I had to work with had one photo--A school photo, and because I am working with a 12x12 book and the photo is only 4x5 that leaves a lot of "white" space on the page. I grabbed my sketches magazine to find inspiration and found it on the first page. Not even a layout that featured just one photo! If you click on the link above, and open the magazine to the first couple pages, it will take you right to the article that features this layout!
Here is my Process:
2 page spread idea. I have one photo--one page to do, the left side page grabbed my attention |
I didn't have any journaling to add to the page, so I found a quote to use instead, also just ignored the additional photos at the top of the page. |
Here's my finished page. |
What do you use for inspiration or a "jump-start" when you need an idea or have a challenging page to do?
If you'd like to share a layout and where you found inspiration, please e-mail your photos and journaling to the address at the top of the blog!
